Is withholding information considered lying all the time or is it situational?

Day 41

There are many times we hear arguments that are concerned with lies and withholding information when telling the truth. The common argument is that both are shades of cheating someone from knowing the complete truth. Simultaneously another argument explicates that the information was not revealed because of many reasons like confidentiality, sensitivity of the topic, the negative aftermath, etc. One of the examples that run into my mind is: a nurse in: a triage process finds the patient is not doing well, but awaits the doctor to disclose the information in detail. This is caused because of the scope of duty guidelines and that is why the information is withheld.

So here is my question: Is withholding information considered lying all the time or is it situational?

Another example would include a scenario when we are sad and unhappy but we put on a smile for everyone. Isn’t this act similar to withholding? Is this considered lying or causing deceit? Does the concept of withholding information considered lying when the implication of the action can cause harm to another person or affect another person? There are many personal secrets, personal flaws within us that we don’t like to share with everyone?

Another example would include the first date, an interview panel, and many more. Here is the idea becomes presentable and marketing the best qualities. In the scenario we withhold our personal drawbacks, weakness, limitations, and many more. The idea is to become to most eligible candidate among the competition. Would you consider this type of conduct of withholding or limiting information with a focus to the positive personal attributes a type of lying
