Why is grass always greener on the other side?

Day 48

A very common saga that my ears have captured among the many Indian Americans residing in this country about how their lives could have been much better in India. But these are the very Indians when they packed their bags to migrate to the United States, they were the happiest campers. They ensured that everyone in the neighborhood knew that they were going to the great country and will be earning in dollars. Now that they have resided here for almost a decade and had to face the hardships of earning every dollar in this country, now they dream of going back. I have seen many Indian American residents move back to India after a decade of working in this country. Many of them had their own reasons like “In India, we have our family”,” We would not have to work so hard”, and many more. I have seen some of the debaters, return to the United States after a period of six months, because now life is better here as per their perspective.

So here is my question: Why is grass always greener on the other side?

Why do we wish for things that we currently don’t have? Why does the value of our wish decline once the wish is in our possession? I will give you another example: A family living in a town home wanted to move into a bigger single family home after living there for almost a decade. They brought to buy a new single family home at a great neighborhood and have been living there for five years. Recently I heard an argument that the single family home is excellent but the mortgage payment is twice as higher than their first home and if they had stayed at their old home they would had paid off their mortgage. I believe this is a classic example of not being satisfied with your possession.

Do you think people who are always chasing the other side will be content? Do you think they achieve their patch of greenery or happiness? At what point should we stop chasing the unrealistic goals in life? At what point should we refocus the energy with us to find the sense of satisfaction? When should we stop blaming our present, and find an escape route with the greener grass on the other side theory? Your current status quo is the result of the decision that you had pursued. Do you agree the theory of the green grass comes because of the human tendency of comparing comforts with other humans?

“The happiness of your life is the results of the decisions you have stood by in life"
